Tallinn Pedagogical College Merged with Tallinn University

On 27 August, Tallinn Pedagogical College became a college of Tallinn
University. It is now officially known as the Tallinn University
Pedagogical College.Tiit Land, Rector of Tallinn University declared, "This
merger takes Estonia to a new level in teacher education in Europe since
all training of teachers is now done entirely in universities in Estonia.
Tallinn University has the longest tradition of teacher training in
Estonia, and the university feels a great responsibility for the education
of future teachers and other specialists working in the field of
education."Koit Nõlvak, Rector of Tallinn Pedagogical College, pointed out
that high-quality higher education is not sustainable without cooperation.
"I believe that the merger with Tallinn University will benefit both
parties. Tallinn Pedagogical University College will maintain its
historical strengths, such as: curricula, scholastic aptitude and the
reputation of graduates in the labour market. At the same time, the College
hopes to receive additional resources for internationalization and
development” said Nõlvak.The Estonian Women’s Association founded the
Tallinn Pedagogical College in1935. In 2006 the College obtained the status
of a College of Applied Higher Education. The College prepares students to
work as pre-school teachers, youth workers and social workers.Tiit Land,
Rector of Tallinn University, and Jaak Aaviksoo, Minister of Education and
Science signed the merger agreement of Tallinn University and Tallinn
Pedagogical College on 28 June 2012.
