Tallinn University signed the Magna Charta

On 18th September Rein Raud, Rector of Tallinn University, signed the MagnaCharta Universitatum which unites more than 600 universities and has becomethe most significant document shaping the principles and values ofuniversities worldwide.

388 rectors all over the world signed the Magna Charta on 18 September 1988
when the University of Bologna celebrated its 900th anniversary, and since
that time tens of new universities have joined the signatory universities
each year. This year the Rector of Tallinn University also signed the
document and delivered a speech in the Aula Magna of Bologna University on
behalf of all the signatory universities of 2009.Tallinn University has
followed the Magna Charta principles in its previous activities; the
Tallinn University Academic Charter also adheres to the same principles.
The target of the university is to develop and foster knowledge and to
maintain the community of scholars and students dedicated to these
activities irrespective of religion, ideology, economic pressure and
governmental policy, as well as achieving academic quality through uniting
research activities and study.Amongst Estonia’s universities, the
University of Tartu is a previous signatory of the Magna Charta.The text of
