Tero Henrik Autio Elected as Professor of Curriculum Theory
At its meeting held on January 31, Tallinn University Senate elected Tero
Henrik Autio as Professor of Curriculum Theory at Tallinn University.Tero
Autio graduated from the University of Tampere (Finland) with Master of
Education, Licentiate of Education and PhD in Education, specialising in
Curriculum Theory. He has worked as a comprehensive school teacher in
Suolahti, a teacher of children with special needs at Tampere University
Hospital and a lecturer of education and psychology at the Vocational
Teacher Training College, Jyväskylä. At the University of Tampere he was
Professor of Education from 2004–2006 and has been Professor of
Curriculum Studies since 2006.Tero Autio has focused on studies in
curriculum theory. He is a valued specialist in cooperation networks of
curriculum researchers in Europe, North and South America and in
international conferences and seminars. Tero Autio's monograph
"Subjectivity, Curriculum and Society: Between and beyond German didaktik
and Anglo-American curriculum studies" published in 2006, deserves special
attention among his many publications. In this work he discusses the two
most acknowledged and influential traditions of curriculum theory –
Anglo-American curriculum studies and German didacticism. Tero Autio
continues to study this research field in his more recent publications. He
attempts to compare the traditions of European and Anglo-American curricula
in order to select the best practices. Furthermore, he also uses the
curriculum theory of Latin America, which has so far been relatively
unknown internationally.Tallinn University will gain a greater depth of
knowledge in the field of curriculum theory with the employment of
Professor Autio and as a result can create an internationally acknowledged
scientific basis for curriculum development at all levels of the
educational system in Estonia.Tero Autio's professorship at Tallinn
