School of Humanities invites you to the seminar ""Between Censorship and Dissidence in USSR" on Friday, 17 February.

The list of speakers includes Rosario Napolitano, a researcher from the University of Naples "L'Orientale", Professor Daniele Monticelli, and Miriam Rossi, a PhD student of the School of Humanities.

During Soviet times dissidence and censorship played a relevant and opposite role in the social and cultural life of Russia and other socialist republics. From the perspective of Translation and Censorship Studies, these phenomena represent a fruitful field of investigation, which is far from begin completely defined.

The seminar presents a case studies of both themes: from one hand the activity of Glavlit (the main censorship body of USSR) in the Baltic states, from Daniel and Sinyavsky's trial; on the other hand, the dissidence developed in the underground of Leningrad. The frame of the seminar will be the methodological approach presented by Daniele Monticelli.
