Clinical evidence proves that it can be beneficial under very different clinical conditions from stress and pain management to psychotherapeutic work with mental health problems and substance abuse.
This presentation discusses potentials of music therapy and different clinical approaches will be illustrated with authentic examples. Up to date knowledge from research and clinical practice, as well as views to future development, will be discussed.
Music therapy is used in its active and receptive forms for wide variety of therapeutic needs. It can be applied from preventive work to treatment in medical context, and in different rehabilitation settings. Clinical experiences and knowledge from research show that music therapy is a very flexible and versatile therapeutic approach. It can be successfully used with people of all ages and from both non-clinical (e.g. in challenging life situation) and diagnosed (e.g. depression, stroke) starting point.
