The next public lecture of Studia Generalia entitled "We Are All Musical: a
Psychological Exploration of the Universality of Musical Behaviour" will be
delivered by Professor Raymond MacDonald. The lecture will take place in
the auditorium M-218 (TU Mare building, Uus-Sadama 5) on Thursday, 12 April
at 16:00.Raymond MacDonald is Professor of Music Psychology and
Improvisation at Glasgow Caledonian University. After completing his PhD at
the University of Glasgow, investigating therapeutic applications of music,
he worked as artistic director for a music company, Sounds of Progress.
This company specialised in working with people who have special needs. His
ongoing research focuses on issues relating to improvisation, musical
communication, music health and well-being, music education and musical
identities. He runs music workshops and lectures internationally and has
published over 60 peer reviewed papers and book chapters.As a saxophonist
and composer his music can be heard on over 40 CDs. He has performed
internationally with some of the world’s leading improvisation musicians
including Evan Parker, Keith Tippett, George Lewis and Barry Guy.Professor
Raymond MacDonald is visiting Tallinn as a University Guest at the
invitation of the Institute of Fine Arts. Professor MacDonald is one of the
key speakers of an international conference entitled "The Changing Face of
Music and Art Education: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" organized by the
Tallinn University Institute of Fine Arts.Studia Generalia is a series of
public lectures delivered by the teachers, researchers and visiting
lecturers of TU. Anyone who enters the University building can listen to
what prominent thinkers have to say on current topics that affect society,
and also participate in the discussion. Students can obtain two credits
after participating in the whole series. Participation is free of charge.
