iCal calendarThe new season of Studia Generalia public lectures opens with a lecture by Katalin Tausz, a visiting professor at the Institute of Social Work and the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. The lecture will take place in the auditorium M-213 (TU Mare building, Uus-Sadama 5) on Thursday, September 18 at 16:00.
In her lecture, Professor Katalin Tausz analyzes the Hungarian social policy, which internationally has been seen to be similar to the Estonian experience. The lecture is entitled „Hungary’s way from a post-communist hybrid welfare regime to a new atypical workfare, punitive prisonfare regime” and will be in English.
Paradigmatic changes characterise the Hungarian welfare system. If one wants to understand these processes needs to be familiarised with the wider social, economic and political context which has set the background to the changes. The presentation will pay special attention to developments regarding the welfare system in the period of the global crisis. Most of the controversial changes that are affecting the recent Hungarian welfare system had started after 2006 and were not triggered but made more intense by the global crisis. The hybrid nature of the Hungarian welfare system has maintained to be the same nevertheless there has been a serious movement towards decreasing rights and state guaranties, while increasing state control too. From 2010 workfare takes over welfare in the political vocabulary, even prisonfare got carried away by the public safety tornado.
