The Kick-off event introduces the aims of the European Horizon Twinning grant “A critical relational perspective on peace & security in CEE”. The kick-off event offers a panel on plural perspectives on security with project partners, policymakers and civil society actors.

The Central and Eastern European Security Hub (CEESHub) is an emerging research center which focuses on the perspectives of Central and Eastern European countries. The creation of the hub is, above all, propelled by the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine, its general impact on the region, and the previous practice in the study of peace and security. Both in practice and in the scientific world, peace and security have been studied largely through the political traditions of the great powers and the West, often ignoring the perspectives, needs and desires of small states. As a result, we are asking, what would security look like, and how is it talked about by small states, Central and Eastern European countries, and if the perspectives of non-military security are taken into account?

The hub is financed by the EU Horizon fund and, under the leadership of Tallinn University (co-directed by Dr Birgit Poopuu and Dr Benjamin Klasche) with the help of Tampere University and University of Copenhagen. In the context of the project we will organize events involving researchers, practitioners and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
