Abstract of the presentation
In this presentation the transition to adulthood will be conceptualized within a socio-ecological life course framework, taking into account multiple and interlinked influences on the lives of young people and associated person-environment interactions over time and in a changing context. In particular, the presentation will address inequalities in opportunity and the interlinkages of structure and agency in times of social change. Drawing on national representative cohort data the question of whether adolescent agency can compensate for socio-economic disadvantage in the school-to- work transition will be addressed, and how to prepare young people for an uncertain future.
