Webinar “Media freedom and freedom of expression at times of military aggression” – the Results of an International Comparative Study

The webinar introduces the recently completed study by the Global Digital Human Rights Network Governing Information Flows during War: A Comparative Study of Content Governance and Media Policy Responses after Russia's Attack on Ukraine. The study involves responses from 29 countries and 53 scholars and practitioners. 

The webinar will be opened by the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Eva-Maria Liimets. Former Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Director for Strategic Communication at German Federal Foreign Office Irene Maria Plank and Irish Parliament member Louise O’Reilly will provide their comments on the study and express their views on the topic of media responsibilities and freedom of speech at the time of military aggression.

This webinar will present the comparative study documenting and analysing the responses of states, media organisations and social media platforms to the war in Ukraine. The longer-term prospects for freedom of expression online because of the military aggression will be addressed as well.
