What are your responsibilities at the School of Digital Technologies?

I am in charge of teaching mathematics courses in the School of Digital Technologies and carrying out research in Applied Mathematics. This semester, I am also in charge of developing the MS program in Applied Mathematics, and I am devoting time to participate in some interdisciplinary research proposals with various areas at Tallinn University.

Due to the pandemic, I have carried out these activities online so far. However, I hope to be able to move to Estonia in the near future and perform my activities on site.

What goals have you set for yourself in this position?

One of my goals is to develop a prestigious research agenda that gives international recognition to the Department of Mathematics and Didactics of Mathematics at Tallinn University. In that aspect, I expect to collaborate actively with colleagues from the School of Digital Technologies in both the search for external research funding and the development of new mathematical results which can be published in high-impact journals.

As a teacher, I wish to develop my didactics skills and become one of the best instructors for my students. In general, I intend to put my best efforts into helping Tallinn University become one of the best universities in the world.

Additionally, to be a member of the Tallinn University Symphony Orchestra would be a dream come true.

I enjoy practising piano and violin in my free time. I listen to academic music daily and strive to read classical literature, especially during vacations. During the weekends, I spend most of the time in my countryside house, where I enjoy being surrounded by nature, my family and my five pets.

Finally, I am proud to mention that I am an animal rights advocate. I devote part of my time to rescuing animals who have been abused, tortured or neglected and strive to find them a loving home.

What is the most important principle to follow in life?

"Non sibi, sed suis".

Not for oneself, but for one's own
