Summer School of Sign Language Studies

In collaboration with Universität Hamburg, Tallinn University, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Summer School of Sign Language Studies will take place from July 21 to July 25, 2025, at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The program will be conducted in International Sign Language and written English.

Sign Language

The aim of the Summer School of Sign Language Studies is to provide an opportunity for advanced students and early career researchers to become acquainted with the range of current developments in sign language studies and to promote the academic discourse in International Sign Language.

Lectures will cover different methodological approaches in sign language studies, such as first and second language acquisition, language description and documentation, language typology, sociolinguistics, interpreting / translation studies and sign language ethnography, deaf studies, etc. There will also be three evening presentations, a panel discussion on the use of International Sign Language, four poster sessions and a day excursion.

Further details, including the full program of the first Summer School of Sign Language Studies and the call for papers, will be published in early January 2025. The application deadline for the Summer School is 30 March 2025.
