Highlights of the 2024 Cohort

The first cohort, held from January 22 to June 12, 2024, welcomed 23 participants from Kenya, Georgia, Ukraine, and India.

The programme began with two online sessions via Zoom, followed by an immersive two-week visit to Tallinn University in Estonia. During this time, participants attended intensive learning sessions, visited local schools such as Kadriorg German Gymnasium and Pelgulinna Gymnasium, and engaged in cultural exchange activities.

Key highlights included:

  • Intercultural Evening: Participants shared the culture, language, songs, and dances of Ukraine, Kenya, and Georgia.
  • Estonian Culinary Experience: Attendees learned about Estonian culture by preparing traditional dishes at Tallinn University’s Science Kitchen.

Guided by lead faculty Professor Eve Eisenschmidt and Peeter Mehisto, an Honorary Research Associate at University College London Institute of Education, participants developed educational projects tailored to their home countries. Projects have included: the teaching of socio-emotional skills during wartime; inspiring vulnerable young people to stay in or return to education; and building the capacity of teacher educators in modelling the delivery of  a competency-based curriculum. Final versions of these projects were presented in June 2024 during an online session that included instructor feedback and a virtual graduation ceremony.

Participant Feedback

Graduates praised the programme for its innovative approaches, practical tools, and valuable insights into Estonia’s education reforms. Many noted how the programme enhanced their professional skills and motivated them to implement meaningful changes in their home countries.
