According to Tsikhanovskaja, Belarus is now as if occupied, because the majority of Belarusians do not support Lukašenko's regime. They are against joining the war and deserve the right to live in a democratic country.

Tõnu Viik explained that it is in Estonia's strategic and tactical interests to make a difference between supporters of the regime and its opponents, because our wider interest is a Belarusian state that is based on democratic values and respects international law. Of course, we also want the Belarusians to be able to determine their own destiny freely and autonomously.

At the meeting with Rector Tõnu Viik, the opposition leader emphasised that it is increasingly important to find ways to offer Belarusian youth, who are opposed to the current regime, learning opportunities in schools that value democracy and freedom.

The meeting between rector Tõnu Viik and opposition leader Svjatlana Tsihhanovskaja was accompanied by a film crew making a documentary about Tsihhanovskaja. The author of the finished film is Belarusian Volia Chajkouskaya, who graduated a few years ago from Tallinn University's Institute of Baltic Film, Media and Arts, majoring in documentary studies.
