Dr Birgit Poopuu is a Research Fellow at Tallinn University’s School of Governance, Law and Society where she is currently leading a two-year research project on “The Role of Women in the Syrian Revolution: Peace through Prefigurative Politics”, financed by the Estonian Research Council (MOBTP200). She is the author of The European Union’s Brand of Peacebuilding: Acting is Everything (Palgrave Macmillan). Her research is curious about the currency of radical and nonviolent knowledge and experience within international politics, and her expertise is divided between critical approaches to peace and conflict, and feminist and decolonial approaches to world politics. Her research explores how Syrian activists – cartoonists, artists, citizen journalists, demonstrators, revolutionary chauffeurs – understand (live/d, kindled, drew) the Syrian revolution, in order to better grasp the radically imaginative resistance the Syrian revolutionaries have engaged in to build a different Syria.
