Professor John W. Berry will give an open lecture Understanding acculturation and intercultural relations in plural societies followed by an academic session devoted to his work. Speakers in this session include Tallinn University Pro-rector Katrin Saks, Professor Inga Jasinskaja-Lahti from the University of Helsinki, Tartu University Pro-rector Aune Valk, and Professor Raivo Vetik from Tallinn University.

As part of the event, Tallinn University will confer the title of Honorary Doctor on John W. Berry, a long-time collaborator with Estonian integration researchers and a key contributor to national integration policy.

John Berry is a world-renowned authority in cross-cultural comparative studies, whose groundbreaking work on ethnic minority integration has made a significant impact. His collaboration with Estonian researchers began in the mid-1990s when Estonia first developed integration policies for its Russian-speaking minority. His theoretical insights helped form the foundation of Estonia’s inaugural integration strategy in 2000, and for the past 30 years he has repeatedly advised Estonian policymakers on integration issues.
