During the IIC business meeting, the members expressed their gratitude to outgoing chair Mélodine Sommier for her dedicated leadership and recognized the contribution of the team of reviewers who evaluated 41 papers and 1 panel this year. The meeting also introduced the newly elected management team: David Ongenaert from Erasmus University Rotterdam (Chair), Anastassia Zabrodskaja from Tallinn University (Chair), Melanie Radue from the University of Passau (Vice-chair), and Shomaila Sadaf from the University of Jyväskylä (Vice-chair).

As a newly elected chair, Professor Anastassia Zabrodskaja aims to enhance the thematic section’s focus on intercultural dialogue in the context of transnational migration and globalized communication landscapes. Her vision is to foster collaboration among scholars from diverse backgrounds and promote interdisciplinary research on how intercultural communication shapes identity, belonging, and social cohesion in today’s interconnected world. She also plans to create more opportunities for young researchers and practitioners to engage with cutting-edge topics and methods in the field.

Professor Anastassia Zabrodskaja, who is also involved in numerous research projects related to multilingualism, language policy, and transnational family dynamics, brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Her leadership is expected to guide the IIC division through exciting and transformative times, reflecting the increasingly complex intercultural challenges faced by societies worldwide.

The ECREA 2024 conference and the election of the new management team mark a new chapter for the thematic section, with a strong emphasis on innovation, inclusion, and the exploration of communication across cultural boundaries.
