All online and blended teaching follows mostly the same principles as contact teaching.

  • A student is present and participates actively in the online lecture/seminar.
  • During the lecture the student is in an environment that permits to concentrate on the studies and meets the general parameters of common decency.
  • A student participates in the lecture/seminar with functioning camera (turned on) and a microphone.
  • A student logs on a few minutes (5 minutes) before the lecture/seminar starts and checks the functioning of technical equipment and internet service.
  •  A student should avoid all disturbing background noises (music, television, pets etc) during the online class.
  • All participants log on with their first and surname (not “My IPhone“ etc).
  • Microphone should be activated for speaking only, or when the lecturer or fellow student moderating the event has permitted to do so.
  • To get permission to speak one should raise a hand (for example in Zoom this function is under the section ’participants’).
  • Questions may be asked through Chat box, including during the lecture/seminar/presentation or while a fellow student is speaking. The lecturer will answer the questions or develop the topic when it is possible and if it does not disturb the layout of the online class.
  • The Chat box should be used only for information, thoughts and questions directly related to the class.
  • All incidental activities (going to make coffee, answer a phone etc) should be avoided during the online classes.
  • For online and blended teaching participation rules, stated in the course programme, will apply. Not meeting the participation criteria may have a similar result to not meeting these criteria in contact classes (failing the course, having to do additional tasks etc).
  • If student must leave an online lecture with participation requirement due to a technical problem or due to another justified reason, the lecturer should be notified as soon as possible.
  • For online teaching ’netiquette’ applies: polite and respectful choice of words (including the Chat box); well argued criticism; taking into consideration other people’s opinion etc. The background and /or profile picture should be polite and neutral.
  • It is prohibited to share the video class link to third parties, it is not permitted to record the online class.
  • It is prohibited to share to third parties the materials (including the lecture notes of the lecturer, presentations, scanned materials, e-books etc) uploaded and made available for the course participants through password protected online environments (Moodle, ÕIS etc).
