Introduction

Marge Unt is Professor of Comparative Sociology at the Institute of International Social Studies at Tallinn University. Prof. Unt has led and participated in numerous large-scale international research projects (EXCEPT, EUROSHIP, Mapineq, LEARN, etc.), served as an advisor to government departments in Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, and Peru, and is a member of several national and international review boards. She is also the editor of Studies of Transition States and Societies (STSS).

Areas of research

Her research focuses on different stages of the life course from a comparative perspective, with a focus on youth transitions to adulthood, motherhood penalties in the labour market, and late career dynamics. Prof. Unt explores how social networks, along with social institutions and norms, shape individuals' life courses and trajectories, with the aim of highlighting the mechanisms that influence cumulative inequalities and well-being.
