Introduction
Sirje Virkus received her undergraduate degree in librarianship and bibliography from Tallinn Pedagogical Institute in 1979, a master’s degree (cum laude) in information science from Tallinn Pedagogical University in 1997, and doctorate in information and communication sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2011. At Tallinn University (previously Tallinn Pedagogical Institute) he has been working since 1985 and is a professor of information science since 2012.
Main tasks
Current courses include the theory and methodology of information science, the theory and practice of information and knowledge management, the theory of information behaviour, the concepts of information and knowledge society, systems and technologies, as well as theory of science and research methods.
Areas of research
Her research focuses on the study of information literacy, information culture and practices, and information science education.
