Tallinn University has announced a public competition to fill the position of Teacher of English language from September 1, 2023. Documents required for application.

Academic unit: School of Humanities / Study Areas: Western European Studies

General description of the position: The job of the Teacher of English is to teach practical English at the first two levels of higher education; to supervise students at the first level of higher education and participate in research and development activities.

Requirements for the candidate: The candidate must meet the requirements for the teacher’s position, listed in the, listed in the Annex 8 of the Employment Relations Rules of Tallinn University.

Professional experience requirements: The candidate must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in English studies or education (with a specialisation in English). The position implies experience in teaching practical English at a university or other education institution (level A1–C1), competence in foreign language acquisition and language teaching methods. Candidates with interest in and potential for conducting research are particularly welcome.

Description of job responsibilities: In accordance with the Annex 1 and 8 of the Employment Relations Rules of Tallinn University. The work duties include teaching practical English and English for Special purposes (level A1–C1), assessing student work and providing feedback; supervising students at the bachelor level; supervising student teaching practice; participation in the study development activities in the field; working on admission and examination boards, participation in the administrative work of the department.

Language skills: English proficiency level at least C1, knowledge of Estonian at time of application is an advantage; required Estonian proficiency of B1 within three years from the start of employment. An employee who does not speak Estonian is expected to start acquiring proficiency in Estonian upon starting work and achieve language proficiency level B1 within three years and a level comparable to level B2 within five years in order to be able to perform tasks related to institutional development and administrative work in Estonian.
