Meet Our Students - Sedef

Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School (BFM) is the heart of creativity of Tallinn University, a place to find your original voice and enhance your practical skills for work in partnership. Probably exactly this was the reason why Sedef from Turkey chose BFM. Plus, during her studies she got to meet one of her idols in the film industry. The floor is yours, Sedef!

Why study at Tallinn University, meet our students

1. What do you study and where are you from?

I am from Turkey, Istanbul and I study Crossmedia in Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School (BFM), Tallinn University.

2. Why did you choose Tallinn University and your programme?

BFM was unique for me because I could not make my mind up in high school about what I wanted to do in my life, I was in between choosing to be a producer or a director. However, Crossmedia was giving me the opportunity of trying more things in the film industry and eventually I would be able to choose whatever I want to focus on more.

3. Would you recommend your study programme and why?

I would recommend my course because this course gives you the freedom of trying out different things in the industry, cooperate with different people related to media, and push both your creative and academic skills. I believe that this programme will give graduates a wide perspective in the field, but especially in life.

4. What is the coolest thing that has happened during your studies?

Every year, one of the most important film festival Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) is happening here in Tallinn. Not only film screenings but also several conferences related to the cinema are happening during this festival. It was the time when PÖFF was going on, and I participated one of the conferences. I was lucky enough to have Mike Newell as a guest at the conference. After that, when the conference was finished, somehow me and my friends ended up in a deep conversation with him and he suggested us to give us a mini-workshop about ''actor directing''. Not only did I gain a valuable deep talk but also got a chance to see his talent through the workshop that was given by the one and only Mike Newell!

5. What are your suggestions for students around the world to cope with the current situation?

I believe that what might be happening right now may be the biggest and most important disaster of the 21st century.
However, we have to keep in mind that we are ALL in this together. I think this fact can make us closer and at the same time, a bit comforted. All we need to do to save the world is to stay at home! You can take this time for doing things you have not been able to do in the chaos of your daily life. However, I suggest you take a look at the world inside of you. Use this time for an internal feud. One of the most important reasons why this is happening might be the choices made by us, human beings. We cannot go back to normality because that normality brought us here. So let us think about what can be done differently from now on.
Contact with your loved ones by video calls, be creative and find other ways to love yourself.
Eat healthy, stay clean and we will soon meet again!
