Research Fellow in Movement and Computational Creativity
Tallinn University has announced a public competition for the position of a Research Fellow in Movement and Computational Creativity (postdoctoral), in the scope of the Movement, Digital Intelligence and Interactive Audience (MODINA) project, hosted by the School of Digital Technologies. The position will be filled as soon as possible, preferably not later than 1st May 2023.

About the MODINA Project
MODINA aims to expand the creative possibilities for contemporary dance performances, and augment the experience for the audience, using digital technology – with an emphasis on exploring artificial intelligence (AI) and audience interaction, on-site and online. This aim has two interconnected approaches, targeting dance artists, media artists (creative technologists) and audiences. The first approach is to build capacity for dance artists and media artists regarding new digital and AI-based approaches in dance – for preparing, performing, distributing and re-purposing dance works (including online) – through collaboration between artists, technologists and our team. The second approach is to allow audiences to engage with performances in an augmented way: enhancing the stage context with technology; using audience interaction strategies; through online channels; or a combination of these. MODINA is a three-year project, starting in 2023, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. About the School of Digital Technologies
The School of Digital Technologies of Tallinn University https://www.tlu.ee/en/dt was formed in 2015 and conducts research in educational technology, human-computer interaction (HCI), natural language technology, information management, etc. The School is also teaching at all levels of higher education, including the Information Society Technologies doctoral programme. The Job Description
Research Fellow in Movement and Computational Creativity is a researcher who conducts research and development activities in computational creativity and AI, with a focus on movement, dance and media art, with strong ties to applications. The researcher participates in, and facilitates, international multidisciplinary cooperation.
Requirements for the Candidate
Candidates for the associate professor position shall meet the requirements, which are stipulated in
- The candidate must have a doctoral degree. We expect the applicant to have a PhD in Computer Science, HCI, Computational Creativity, Movement Computing or a related area, and show evidence of exceptional research promise in the research areas above.
- Experience of participating in large-scale research and development projects is recommended.
Job Responsibilities
- Conducts research in the scope of MODINA project, and related areas;
- Assists the Principal Investigator of MODINA in managing the project;
- Actively participates in international research and development activities, finds research and development resources;
- Publishes in leading international journals and presents on important international conferences;
- Teaches and supervises students (between 5% and 10% of working load);
- Participates in administrative and development activities of the School of Digital Technologies and outside the school;
- Is present at the University at least 3 days per week.
Language skills: English (on the level necessary for conducting research and teaching).
Start of the employment contract: The position will be filled as soon as possible, preferably not later than May 1st, 2023.
Duration of the employment contract: 1.5 years position, renewable for a maximum of 3 years.
Working load: 1,0 (40 hours per week), including teaching (between 5% and 10% of working load).
