Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), in collaboration with the Baltic Film, Media and Arts Institute (BFM), is organizing a workshop that offers a fascinating insight into the relationship between director and composer. The workshop will be led by Emmy-nominated composer Miriam Cutler.

It begins with a public lecture highlighting the importance of collaboration, case studies, and key considerations before and during the scoring process. For the closed workshop, Music Meets Film participants will be paired with young directors from BFM, each bringing a 2-minute work-in-progress film clip. Following a spotting session, composers will create the score using Orchestral Tools packages, collaborating directly with their directors until the next day. The workshop concludes the following morning with a listening and feedback session led by the mentor, during which each pair reflects on their creative choices, gaining firsthand insight into how music and picture shape each other in real-world filmmaking.

The open part of the workshop will take place at BFM and is open to visitors with an ITBE passport and day ticket, as well as BFM students and faculty members for free. The workshop is open to those who arrive first, and places are not reserved in advance.
