Katrin Saks Elected as the Director of Tallinn University Baltic Film and Media School
Katrin Saks, an Estonian journalist and politician, was named as the
Director of the TU Baltic Film and Media School by the school’s council
after winning the final round of voting on Thursday, February 17. There
were seven nominations for the position of Director, three of these being
foreigners. Three of the candidates – Katrin Saks, Martin Aadamsoo and
Jarmo Valkola – were successful in reaching the final round of voting.
However, none of these three candidates gained 2/3 of the votes of the
electoral body during the first round of voting. Katrin Saks and Martin
Aadamsoo gained enough votes to move on to the second round and Katrin Saks
was the successful candidate in this round of voting.Katrin Saks is an
Estonian politician and journalist and was born in Tallinn on November 29,
1956. Saks graduated with a degree in Journalism from the University of
Tartu in 1981 and a degree in International Relations from the Estonian
School of Diplomacy in 1993. Saks worked as a journalist for the Estonian
TV channel Eesti Televisioon from 1993 to1997. She worked as a project
manager for the Open Estonia Foundation in 1998–1999 and as a lecturer at
Concordia International University from 1998 to 2000. Katrin Saks was a
member of the Estonian Parliament from 2003 to 2006, and subsequently was
elected to the European Parliament. She is currently president of the
Estonian Union for Child Welfare, a position she has held since being
elected in 2006. Katrin Saks was a member of the Estonian Broadcasting
Council and also the Board of Governors of the University of Tartu until
2006. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the Estonian Academy of
Music and Theatre and a member of the Estonian Social Democratic Party. She
has published numerous articles and essays in the Estonian media.
