On Monday, May 10th at 10:00, the British historian Simon Sebag Montefiore
will hold a public lecture on “Stalin: red tsar red monster, young tsar
young monster?” at Tallinn University. The lecture will be introduced by
Marek Tamm, associate professor in cultural theory in the TU Estonian
Institute of Humanities. The lecture will be held in English and it will
take place in room M-213 of the TU Mare building (Uus-Sadama 5).In his
lecture, Montefiore describes his years of research on Stalin and his era,
and by explaining Stalin’s phenomenon today. Montefiore is one of the
most popular British historians, both at home and abroad. He has published
two fundamental books about Stalin and his immediate circle: Stalin: the
Court of the Red Tsar (2004) and Young Stalin (2007).The British historian
and author Simon Sebag Montefiore (born in 1965) majored in history at the
Conville & Caius College, Cambridge University. Having been published
in 35 languages, Montefiore is one of the most well-read and translated
British historians and an internationally acclaimed specialist in Russian
history. Montefiore’s Stalin: the Court of the Red Tsar won the History
Book of the Year Award at the 2004 British Book Awards. Montefiore is one
of the key speakers in the Tallinn Literature Festival (May 6-9, 2010).
