Long-term mobility

Last semester master's students

Master’s students who wish to write their master’s thesis abroad during their last semester, can now also do that. This means that they are not required to take and/or transfer the courses and credits back to Tallinn University.

NB! If a student is enrolled in English language MA degree programme (tuition fee paying student), and goes abroad to just write the thesis as last semester's MA student, then he/she is still required to pay tuition fee to TLU for this semester because he/she has registered for the MA thesis or final exam.
NB! The approval from thesis’ supervisor has to be attached to the online-application!
NB! By the end of exchange studies and this same last semester, the student has to defend his/her master’s thesis at Tallinn University! Therefore the last date of studies at the host university can be April 30th of the Spring semester or 30th November of the Autumn semester.

If the student has been selected to participate in the Erasmus+ programme by TLU, and thereafter starts presenting documents to the host university, and that also means preparing the Learning Agreement, the student should also double-confirm with the contact-person at the host university, whether it is also acceptable for them that he/she is taking 0 courses and credits, and will be writing his/her MA-thesis. If the student will be writing his/her MA-thesis at the receiving institution, the "individual work" should be listed in Tabel A.

Good to keep in mind: In order to avoid refusal from host university (i.e. refusing to accept 0 courses), then by the time of compiling a Learning Agreement, it is better to still just choose some courses from host university, yet to keep in mind that those do not have to be transferred back to TLU.

Doctoral students

Doctoral students who wish to write their thesis/research at the host university are also not required to take and/or to transfer back to TLU the courses & credits taken abroad, given the exchange-studies’ period abroad is taken into consideration during doctoral student’s evaluation at TLU.

NB! The approval from thesis’ supervisor has to be added to the online-application.

When preparing online-application, and filling in the Preliminary Study Plan, there are two options:
a) In case the doctoral student still wishes to take some courses at the host university, then he/she can still list those courses in this preliminary Study Plan. Do not forget to tick the check-box at the end of application, confirming that this part of the online application has been taken care of.
b) Or if the doctoral student prefers not to take courses at all when abroad, then the rows of the Study Plan can be left empty, but do not forget to tick the check-box at the end of application, confirming that this part of the online application has been taken care of.

Besides the exemption from transferring courses and credits back to Tallinn University, all other participation requirements, as well as the application process and scholarship rates, are the same for both the last semester MA students and Doctoral students, as well as for all other students who apply for Erasmus+ programme.

Doctoral short-term mobility for studies

  • Virtual component is not mandatory, with the exception of BIPs organised by partner universities.
  • If the studies abroad are taken into consideration during attestation, doctoral student doesn't need to complete courses in the amount of minimum required ECTS.

Besides the exemption from participating in the virtual component and transferring credits back to Tallinn University, all other participation requirements, as well as the application process and scholarship rates, are the same for Doctoral students as for all other students who apply for the Erasmus+ programme.
