University of Ghana Delegation Visits Tallinn University to Advance Collaboration

Earlier this month, Tallinn University had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the University of Ghana as part of our growing collaboration under a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.
The delegation included:
-
Prof. Olivia Tiwaa Kwapong – Dean, School of Continuing and Distance Education; Director, Digital Youth Village & Centre for Digital Youth Development
-
Prof. Simon-Peter Kafui Aheto – Deputy Director (Programmes), Digital Youth Village
-
Dr. Jack Andrew Dotsey – Deputy Director (Partnerships), Digital Youth Village
The visit focused on deepening strategic cooperation through two key initiatives:
-
The joint development of the Centre of Excellence in Digital Technologies in Educational Innovation
-
Continued collaboration related to the Digital Youth Village, a government-funded innovation hub initiative aimed at empowering Ghanaian youth through digital education and entrepreneurship
Over the course of the week, the delegation engaged in a series of meetings at Tallinn University with faculty and leadership, including Vice-Rector for Development Prof. Katrin Saks, Director of the School of Digital Technologies Prof. Peeter Normak, and representatives from the School of Digital Technologies, School of Governance, Law and Society and the School of Educational Sciences. Together, we explored opportunities for joint programmes, research, and innovation within the Centre of Excellence framework.
The programme also included several external meetings designed to introduce the delegation to Estonia’s digital ecosystem:
-
At the e-Estonia Briefing Centre, the delegation was introduced to Estonia’s digital governance model, education technologies, and public-private partnerships driving digital innovation.
-
At EstDev – the Estonian Centre for International Development, discussions focused on development cooperation, Estonia’s support to digitalisation in Africa, and synergies with the goals of the Digital Youth Village.
-
A meeting with EdTech Estonia brought together education startups and community-driven initiatives, opening a dialogue on how Ghana’s innovation hubs could benefit from Estonia’s education technology sector.
The delegation also participated in Tallinn University’s international seminar, "A Changing World: Building Political and Economic Relations in Africa," which brought together experts from across the continent and beyond.
To celebrate the visit, we organised an international cooking and dinner evening, bringing together colleagues and guests from diverse backgrounds. Estonian and African dishes were prepared and shared in a warm atmosphere, fostering cultural exchange and personal connections beyond the formal programme.
A heartfelt thank you to all Tallinn University colleagues and partners who contributed to making this visit meaningful, memorable, and full of potential for future cooperation!
