Beyond the Capital: Assessing Digital Transformation at UEM’s Regional Campuses
IIn June, Sónia Sousa and David Lamas visited regional campuses of Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique with support from Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility to assess institutional readiness for digital transformation. The visit also strengthened strategic and academic cooperation through meetings with UEM leadership and expanded cross-disciplinary collaboration between the two universities.
In June, a field visit to Mozambique extended beyond Maputo to explore how digital transformation is experienced and enacted across regional campuses of Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM). Supported by Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM), the visit combined institutional dialogue, academic preparation, and field-based assessment of digital readiness across diverse geographic and academic contexts.
Meetings were held with the leadership of three UEM schools located in regional areas: the School of Tourism in Inhambane, the School of Business and Entrepreneurship in Chibuto, and the School of Agronomy in Vilankulos. Discussions focused on digital infrastructure, teaching and learning practices, administrative processes, and staff and student digital competencies, highlighting how local conditions shape priorities and challenges in digital transformation.
In parallel with the regional visits, the delegation met with the Rector of Universidade Eduardo Mondlane to discuss strategic cooperation and next steps in digital transformation. Maria Saar joined the visit to support preparation activities for incoming UEM students, while Kristiina Rebane and Ülo Siirak from Tallinn University’s School of Humanities took part in meetings aimed at broadening collaboration beyond digital technologies. Together, these engagements reinforced a shared commitment to inclusive, cross-disciplinary cooperation and further strengthened the partnership between Tallinn University and Universidade Eduardo Mondlane.
