A seminar was recently held to introduce students and staff from Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo, to Estonia, Tallinn University, and the School of Digital Technologies. The session was led by Peeter Normak, Maria Saar, and David Lamas, who presented Estonia as a digitally advanced society and highlighted how its national context supports innovation in education, governance, and research.
The speakers then introduced Tallinn University as a public university with a strong international orientation and a focus on interdisciplinarity and societal impact. Particular attention was given to the School of Digital Technologies, presented as a central hub for teaching and research on digital learning, human-centred technology, educational innovation, and digital transformation, with students and researchers actively engaged in applied and practice-based work.
A key part of the seminar focused on academic exchange opportunities between Tallinn University and Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. The presenters outlined mobility options available to students, doctoral candidates, and staff, including study visits, research stays, teaching exchanges, and joint supervision, and explained the main funding schemes and application pathways supporting these activities.
The seminar concluded with a discussion on the academic and personal value of international mobility, including intercultural learning, research collaboration, and professional development. Participants were encouraged to consider Tallinn University as a destination for study and research, and the event reinforced a shared commitment to strengthening academic cooperation between Estonia and Mozambique.
