Aki Kaurismäki's "Man Without a Past": Late Jaak Lõhmus's Birthday Celebration at SuperNova Cinema
Add to calendar
iCal calendarSpring came around last week with snow and the birthday of Jaak Lõhmus on the 25th of April, so it's only fitting to celebrate his birthday with our final film of the season.
The film "Man Without a Past" (2002; 97min.) is straight out of Jaak's film collection and was picked out by his son Johannes:
At 12 years of age, "Aki Kaurismäki's "Man Without a Past" was my first meeting with the Nordic film tango master and since my father practically forced me to watch it a film festival at Espoo, for a long time I had no interest whatsoever in Kaurismäki. Only after turning 20, did I feel mature enough to give the director a second chance.
Since my father loved to dig around in the past so much so, that he often forgot the present, this seems like the perfect film to show and recall at the cinema he felt so at home at.
The film is in Finnish with English subtitles.
