The Estonian Foreign Ministry and Tallinn University will open the photo
exhibit “Estonia in Pictures” in Estonia’s virtual embassy in Second
Life on Thursday, 19 February. The virtual exhibit will include some of the
Foreign Ministry’s exhibit created for introducing Estonia, which will
begin a five-year tour around the world beginning on Estonian Independence
Day in the embassy in Washington, DC.

The virtual exhibit will be opened with a discussion circle about
Estonia’s identity and its portrayal. The participants in the discussion
circle, which will be held at Tallinn University, will be Foreign Ministry
Secretary General Marten Kokk, historian Marek Tamm, advertising expert
Joel Volkov, cultural geography expert Helen Sooväli, and photographer
Annika Haas.

The goal of the world tour that is beginning is to portray Estonia’s
identity. “The photographers tried to capture Estonia’s essence,
searching for the nature, authenticity and warmth that characterise
Estonia, both in its people and its landscapes,” describes exhibit
curator Helen Sooväli. The photos in the exhibit were taken by Annika
Haas, Gabriela Järvet, Birgit Püve, and Ingmar Muusikus.

Those interested can take part in the exhibit opening and discussion circle
both in the virtual embassy at http://www.vm.ee/est/kat_42/9098.html or at
Tallinn University in hall U648 (Uus-Sadama 5, 5th floor). Visitors to the
virtual embassy will see a live feed of the discussion circle taking place
at Tallinn University and can virtually interact with the speakers. At the
opening event in the university hall it will be possible to see the virtual
exhibit and the embassy event through the internet.
