The student is entitled to apply for the scholarship twice per academic year – in the autumn semester (25 August – 15 September 2025) and in the spring semester (23 December 2025 – 15 January 2026). Applications cannot be submitted after the deadline.

Tallinn University students on their first or second level of studies may apply for the scholarship provided they:

  • are citizens of Estonia or residing in Estonia on the basis of a long-term or temporary residence permit or permanent or temporary right of residence, or staying in Estonia on the basis of a visa, or visa-free in the cases where a treaty for visa-free travel has been established or in the case of waiver of the visa requirements and have applied for temporary residence permit for studies;
  • have performed voluntary work within the last three years or have contributed to the development of civil society and continue with similar activities at the time of application;
  • have not exceeded their nominal period of studies;
  • are not on academic leave at the time of submitting the application;
  • are not offering/have not offered services to TLU Student Union on the basis of a contract under the law of obligations within a year prior to application for the scholarship.

A student may receive a scholarship for a maximum number of calendar months corresponding to the nominal duration of the study programme.

To apply for a scholarship, students must submit an application in the Study Information System, together with a CV and a motivation letter (form can be found here). NB! Please upload the CV and motivation letter to the Study Information System as a single PDF file.

Awarding the scholarship

The number of scholarships is determined by the member of the Rectorate in charge of Academic Affairs appointed by the Rector for each semester.

The commission will establish a ranking list of students who have applied for a scholarship. The ranking will be based on the documents the students has submitted and will assess the candidate's previous and planned social activities and the importance of the activities for society and Tallinn University.

The committee reserves the right to request additional explanations or supporting documents if necessary.

Payment of the Scholarship

The scholarship amount is €200 per month and it is awarded for 5 months

The order for the awarding of the scholarship will be made no later than 10 October and 10 February. The Academic Affairs Office will forward to the applicant a notification of awarding or not awarding the scholarship via the Study Information System. 

 The scholarship is paid by the 30th of each month for the corresponding academic month, except for the scholarship for September, which is paid during the month of October. The scholarship will be transferred to the bank account indicated by the student in the application. The scholarship will not be transferred to another person's bank account. 

Payment of the scholarship will be terminated on if the student is deleted from the matriculation registry of the university.

If a student was awarded and/or paid a scholarship in error due to the fact that the student provided false information when applying for the scholarship, the student will not be entitled to the scholarship awarded and/or paid. If such a circumstance arises, the student is obliged to return the unduly received scholarship to the university on the basis of the university's claim.

    Voluntary work is helping an organisation or a person outside your immediate circle of acquaintances, done of your own free will and without receiving payment.

  2. Is participation in a LIFE project, supervising aa LIFE project, attending tutor training, or going on exchange considered voluntary work?

    No, these activities are not considered voluntary work, as students receive credit points for them.

  3. Is working as a teaching assistant considered voluntary work?

    No, not if it is paid.

  4. Can I submit my CV and motivation letter using my own format?

    No, the provided form must be used.
