Tallinn University and Obafemi Awolowo University Strengthen African–European Collaboration Through Erasmus+ Mobility Exchange
Tallinn University’s School of Digital Technologies (DTI) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Nigeria successfully concluded an Erasmus+ staff mobility exchange focused on interdisciplinary learning, curriculum innovation, and future African–European research collaboration.
The mobility exchange, which took place from 11–15 May 2026, brought together researchers, academic leaders, and institutional stakeholders to explore new opportunities in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), lifelong learning, and digital transformation in higher education. The visit was organised within the framework of the LIFE project (Learning in Interdisciplinary Focused Environment), which supports interdisciplinary collaboration and curriculum development across countries and institutions.
A central highlight of the mobility week was a collaborative co-design workshop focused on developing a proposed interdisciplinary postgraduate LIFE course at Obafemi Awolowo University. The workshop brought together academics, institutional leaders, and industry practitioners to jointly explore future-oriented approaches to interdisciplinary education and digital innovation. A student-led co-design phase is planned as the next step in further developing and validating the curriculum framework.
The programme also included several high-level meetings between Tallinn University and OAU representatives, strengthening institutional dialogue and exploring future collaboration opportunities under Erasmus+, KA220 Cooperation Partnerships, Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), and Horizon Europe WIDERA initiatives.
During the visit, the delegation met with academic leadership and research representatives at OAU, including Deputy Vice-Chancellors, postgraduate college representatives, and faculty members involved in digital transformation, education, and research development. Participants also visited research laboratories and student incubation centres where digitalisation projects are being developed.
Beyond the academic programme, the mobility exchange included cultural visits that offered participants deeper insight into Nigerian history and Yoruba cultural heritage. The delegation visited the palace of the Ooni of Ife, the paramount ruler of Yorubaland, and explored local museums and cultural sites.
The mobility exchange further strengthens Tallinn University’s strategic partnerships in West Africa, including collaboration opportunities in Nigeria and Ghana, while supporting broader international cooperation in higher education, research, and innovation.
