First Month of Eurocampus at TU: Lisa Davidson

Eurocampuse rühm Tallinna ülikooli MAREs

Who am I? Hello! My name is Lisa Davidson and I am currently enrolled in a master’s program called Language – Interaction – Culture at the University of Bayreuth. I have German and US-American citizenship and have lived in various countries over the years.

As a result of having grown up multilingual and multicultural in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States and additionally having worked in, studied in and travelled abroad to several different countries, I have always felt foreign and belonging to various cultures and languages at the same time.

How I learnt about Eurocampus? During the last semester of my undergraduate program, I was surfing the internet for possible master program options. I came across the graduate program of the University of Bayreuth and had it not been for the possibility of joining the Eurocampus, I would not have enrolled there. After reading the curriculum and the course requirements of the Eurocampus carefully, I knew that it perfectly matched my research interests and profile.

What were my main motivations to apply? Since the primary focus of my graduate studies in Germany is on the linguistic aspects of intercultural communication, I wanted to experience a broader perspective of this field of research, such as a social scientific or anthropological approach. Additionally, I felt the urge to move and travel abroad again. Meeting new people from all over the world was another huge motivation for me to apply.

What are my first experiences at Tallinn University? The first week at Tallinn University was very relaxed. All the professors and coordinators here were extremely welcoming and friendly. They guided us through important procedures like applying for Estonian residency, showed us how to use the public transportation here and took us on various trips throughout Tallinn and the facilities of the university. So far the past weeks have been very exciting and interesting and I’m positive that it will continue to be fascinating, offering new surprises and insights in different facets of intercultural communication every day.
