First Month of Eurocampus at TU: Annika Sievert

Who am I? My name is Annika and I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Intercultural Communication at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. You probably have no idea where that is – and to be honest I didn’t either before I moved there.

I am originally from Germany but always knew that I wanted to complete my Master’s degree in English and with a focus on Intercultural Communication. Jyväskylä offered the ideal programme for me and thus I packed my bags and moved North. I am very interested in different cultures and how to communicate between them. In my studies I especially focus on migration and how modern technologies have changed Intercultural Communication.

How I learnt about Eurocampus? Eurocampus quite closely links to my studies and during the application process for the Master’s degree we were already asked if the programme would be of interest to us. As I had just moved, I was not sure if I wanted to move to yet another country but when our professors talked about it in class I decided to give it a shot and applied.

What were my main motivations to apply? The main reason Eurocampus appealed to me was the international environment. I really enjoy working with people from different countries and background and Eurocampus gives me the chance to work with students and professors from universities all over Europe. I also love travelling and could not really resist the chance to call another city home for a while.

What are my first experiences at Tallinn University? So far studying in Tallinn has been great. Our group is quite close-knit and it has been fun getting to know everybody better and learning from each other. Tallinn University is also a great location for Eurocampus – we were welcomed very warmly and have received a lot of support during the first weeks. My first weeks here have been interesting, challenging and fun all in once and I really hope it continues like that!
